Our Story

Creative Kids Learning Center, located in Ankeny, IA, is a trusted and premier day care center providing exceptional care and early education for children aged 18 months to school age. Since opening in 2011, Creative Kids has been dedicated to fostering a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. With a focus on both academic and social development, we pride ourselves on offering a well-rounded experience for every child in our care.

Founded by Shelley Huss, a daycare director with over 30 years of experience and valuable expertise on getting a center accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, Creative Kids Learning Center was born out of her passion for early childhood education and her desire to create a center that truly puts children and families first. Shelly's expertise and dedication to high-quality care have shaped Creative Kids into a place where both children and parents feel supported and valued.

At Creative Kids, we specialize in using the Creative Curriculum, a comprehensive, research-based approach that encourages children to explore, discover, and engage in hands-on learning experiences. This curriculum emphasizes play-based learning, creativity, and social interaction, allowing children to develop essential skills at their own pace in a fun and supportive setting. Our program is designed to meet the developmental needs of each age group, helping to foster confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

In addition to our exceptional curriculum, we offer a variety of enriching activities that make learning exciting and enjoyable. Regular field trips and special events are a big part of our program, providing children with opportunities to explore the world around them and gain new experiences. Best of all, these field trips are included in the tuition, so families never have to worry about additional costs for these exciting outings. We also offer prorated rates for part-time children, ensuring that our high-quality care is accessible to a range of family needs and schedules.

This daycare is extremely underrated in our suburb. It’s a smaller daycare with a small daycare vibe which we appreciate. Our daughter loves all the staff and they all know her by name, even though she’s not In their room. Not one time has she come home with a feeling that she didn’t want to go back. (Been here 2 years) She’s always excited to go back. That’s important to us as this was not the same experience we received at a different, larger daycare In town. I know our kids safe there. We moved daycares TO creative kids because of repeated bites to our daughter with no action taken for my “lil tot.” Things happen, of course they’re kids, for example, daughter got bit by a biter here, ONCE. Not over and over. Corrective action was made and all went forward. Something that didn’t happen elsewhere in town. We get daily, weekly, and monthly updates on the app. Also, huge thing here, if we call or message on the app, we get an answer or message back in a timely manner. Special shout to the amazing Brooke and Jen, my daughter’s favorite teachers! I can type all day and give examples but nothing can be substituted for actual CARE, LOVE, and PRIDE that runs through the veins of this place. I know my daughter receives and learns these behaviors when she goes there daily. As long as Shelly is there, we won’t consider another place for our child care. She sets this wonderful tone and is respected by all as well delivers the same respect to all.
